BIONIC SUPERSTRUCTURE OVERTAKES CHINESE BLOCK
仿生结构占领城市街区

The Bionic Superstructure links the existing infrastructure of the corner metro station into an independent green roof structure, sharing similarities with BAM’s well-known Biornis Aesthetope project. Residents can enjoy a high-line like green roof connection between office, shopping, and residence towers, plus acess the cities metro lines.

BAM’s latest Bionic Superstructure, inspired by the Biornis Aesthetope, offers a solution to overly developed Chinese urban areas currently being depleted of all usable public space. The system plays on the idea of nature overtaking the city, plugging into existing infrastructure and attaching to architectural structures at selected column points. Residents of this popular city district have only have parking lots for public space, a not uncommon characteristic of today's Chinese cities. Recreating on the tarmac along an oil stain, Mr. Yu a long time resident of the area remarks "This parking lot is better than the workers’ housing that once stood here. Sure I would like a tree or some grass, but this is better than the old factories." Still, residents of China’s second tier cities, are voicing a growing need for public spaces in their overcrowded cities.

The current city planning relies on retail bases of developments to invest in the surrounding public spaces. Today's malls and retail developers are not providing adequate solutions to this problem.
